SELF-AWARENESS, A TRAIT OF A POTENTIAL LEADER

Grace Osei writes: In today's edition, I will share my personal experience. My journey to self- awareness was quite simple, but it did take time... It began with others helping me become aware of myself. I used to look down on myself but it took people who believed in me to help me see my worth. Especially, my pastors, parents , siblings, mentors , teachers, friends and faculty members of the Central Leadership Program. This experience created a hunger in me to further develop myself. I wondered what I was missing, what else didn't I know and was there something else out there for me? But hopefully, what I will share with you will help you become more aware of yourself. Self-awareness is a powerful skill that can help you to know and appreciate yourself and it empowers you to understand others. It also allows you to maximize your strength and minimize your weakness and this can ultimately open doors to greater opportunities in your life. How did mine happen? I started understanding myself and also discovered things about myself. I tried to discern and reflect on where to pay attention to because I wouldn't be able to do everything. My focus was on my strength and what I'm capable of doing best. I realized when I focus on my weaknesses and those who discourage me , the best I can do is to work my way up to average. Whatever you are able to do well, try to do it better and at the end you will definitely be the BEST at it. That is your greatest pathway of being aware of yourself. Zig Ziglar said, "Don’t let others be your judge and jury with their pity and negative thoughts or feeling. Know that you are here for a reason. Recognize, develop, and use the resources you do have. Others see the surface; you know your heart."
