THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE, NOT OFFICES TO BE OCCUPIED

ENOCK NIMFOUR writes: Every nation's development can undeniably be attributed to the relentless efforts of its visionary leaders. Great civilizations that have existed, owe their prosperities as a credit to their selfless and die-hard patriotic leaders. How can Ghana forget her Kwame Nkrumah? It is a fact that leaders of nations and organizations realized their leadership prowess while serving as student leaders. The blueprint of their political dexterity can mostly be attributed to their days back at school where they served as student leaders, hence the need to take students politics at heart. The crops of students' leaders emerging are almost changing the success story The catchy slogans, the beautiful and creative poses for campaign pictures for posters, the apparels worn among others that can help them canvass vote from the ordinary student are strategically chosen. The smiles they wear on their faces while campaigning has a meaning. It has been realized that they don't smile because they have the ordinary student at heart but smile because they foresee a brighter day ahead for them when you mistakenly give them the power. The sudden change in dressing of prospective student leaders during their electioneering period needs to be critically analyzed. It has become a common practice that people who contest positions begin appearing very neat and in nice apparel. Why so? It runs through their minds to appear good to garner votes from colleagues and that becomes a prototype for how they are going to lavishly live their lives when you give them the power they so much want. Other gestures; holding of pens and appearing to be writing. Isn't this funny? Is it possible to write well when you focus on a camera lens? It may simply meanwhile the problems that are to be addressed are lying there, leaders when voted into power focus on things that interest them. The tip of the innocent pens are always used as vehicles to inflate budgets for personal gains of students' leaders who work without integrity. Emerging leaders should work with integrity and diligence. The smiles that are seen on your campaign posters should reflect in the lives of the ordinary student when given the mandate to serve. Let those voted for you also look good, treating them with the needed respect, having a listening ear and above working with the spirit of subservience authorities above them. Students' political leaders must take note that, THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE, NOT OFFICES TO BE OCCUPIED.
